Calvin College Announces a Name Change by 2020

Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan announced that it will change its name to Calvin University by 2020.  The institution, affiliated with the Christian Reformed Church, was founded in 1876 as a theological school. It became John Calvin Junior College in 1906 and changed its name to Calvin College and Seminary in 1908.

Fountainhead College of Technology in Knoxville, TN announced that it will be closing.  You can read a brief statement that is currently posted on the institution's website .   There is also a brief video posted by WATE , Knoxville's ABC affiliate, " Fountainhead College of Technology closing ." The institution was founded as the Tennessee Radio Service School in 1947 at 422 Gay Street in Knoxville.  The following year, the name was changed to Tennessee Institute of Electronics.  The name change once more to Fountainhead College of Technology in 2003. Fountainhead offered Associate Degrees in Electronic Technology, Information Technology, Computer Programming, and Health Information Management. Memories of Former College at an Indiana Resort

The French Lick Resort blog posted " Tales Out of School from West Baden's College Days " this week with a brief historical sketch and comments of several alumni from Northwood Institute.  Northwood Institute operated at the site from 1968-1983.  The institution was founded in Alma, MI in 1959 and the West Baden, IN site "...offered two-year and four-year degrees in business, performing arts and vocational studies. Northwood was renowned for some of its specialty programs like automotive marketing, fashion merchandising, and hotel and restaurant management."  After closing in Indiana, academic programs continued under a new name of Northwood University in Michigan, Florida, and Texas . The resort property used by Northwood Institute was known for its mineral springs and was initially developed as the West Baden Springs Hotel .  The hotel flourished but ultimately closed during the 1930s. Keystone College Celebrates 150th Anniversary

Keystone College in La Plume, PA, near Scranton, is celebrating the 150th anniversary of its founding in 1868 .  It was  founded as Keystone Academy and then rechartered as Scranton-Keystone Junior College in 1934. The name changed to Keystone Junior College in 1944 and to Keystone College in 1995. The 150th Anniversary web pages offer an extensive array of resources including a schedule of events, historical images and information, and an excellent short YouTube video, " Keystone College Past and Present ." The Times-Tribune of Scranton also published " Keystone College celebrates 150 years of changes ," by Sarah Hofius Hall that includes an historical sketch of institutional changes.
